Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
I hope you had a wonderful week visiting with loved ones. We had a lot of great times around the Christmas tree, which is one of my favourite things about Christmas. I love the lights and the love it represents. I even like to start the day by doing a meditation beside it, with the lights on while it’s still dark. There is something really peaceful about it 🙂
As we approach the New Year, it’s important to think about our bigger mission and to re-connect it. Read on to find out exactly what I mean by “re-connect”, and how to do this for yourself in order to ensure your success and to start 2014 off with an uber powerful energy!
I was at a meeting last week with one of my mentors, David Neagle, and he talked a lot about commitment. I mean a lot. It was a great reminder on just how important it is to not only make a commitment, but to connect with it every single day.
Let’s talk about commitment for a moment. In business, the commitment must be to your bigger mission / purpose. It’s about connecting with the “why” you do what you do. You must be so committed to carrying it out that you will do whatever it takes and be whoever you need to be to make it happen. The definition of commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. I love that quality is included in that definition. In business, the quality of your commitment must be great. It has to be so strong that it will carry you through no matter how you feel. If you’re tired, if you’re not feeling well, if you’re a little down – it doesn’t matter. That strong commitment level must be there. You are it. If you have employees, you are still it because they follow your lead. Your commitment must be unwavering to your bigger vision and to seeing it through. Without it, your business will crumble. It will crumble because you are the lifeline and energy of the business. You have to be strong and convicted in your bigger mission and vision for your company to succeed.
So how do you stay committed? Well, it starts with having absolute clarity on what you really want. What is your purpose? If you are really honest with yourself, what are you here to do? What mission are you here to carry out? Allow yourself to go on that direction and embrace it fully.
After you know your mission, you will start to formulate your vision. How do you see yourself bring your purpose to light? It’s about creating that bigger vision for your business and life – i.e. what you want, where you want to live, etc. It all goes together.
The next step is to stay committed every single day. Wake-up and connect to your purpose and vision. Remind yourself of what it is and see yourself actually doing it. I talk a lot about visualizing and this is when you would do it. Work from your vision every single day. When you make decisions, make sure they’re coming from your vision, as if you already are there. Instead of making your way up to your vision, work from the top down. Act like you’re already there – it will get you there a lot faster then trying to work your way up. This will involve shifting your thinking and the way you are behaving.
If you start to slip, then do what you need to do to get back on track and re-connected. Watch an inspiring movie, listen to an audio book – do whatever it takes to solidify that commitment on a daily basis.
