We had a wonderful Thanksgiving last weekend with our close friends. We even went “skating by the sea” the next day! It was such and amazing experience for us and the kids 🙂 Here is a picture of Jude skating.
As we move into Christmas holiday season, I’m reminded of how crazy it can get. I hope today’s tips will help you stay “sane” and “enjoy” this holiday season.
Tip #1: Decide on a budget for gifts and stick to it!
We seem to get so carried away with gift giving at Christmas time, and then we pay for it (literally) in January when the bills come in. If you set a budget ahead of time (and stick to it), you will feel much better when it’s time to start the new year. Try to buy gifts that are meaningful instead of expensive. Most of us are trying to de-clutter these days anyway and most of us no longer want or need more “stuff”!
Tip #2: Only say YES to parties You WANT to go to!
This is hard. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to be invited to a lot of parties, but a lot of the time we feel obligated to go. In keeping in-line with creating a freedom-based life & business, you need to be true to yourself and only say yes to the events you want to attend. You will have more fun & energy for the events you do decide to go to.
Tip #3: Prepare as much as You can in advance!
If you are hosting a party or Christmas day dinner, try to prepare as many things in advance that you can. Don’t be afraid to ask your spouse and kids to help too. The more you have ready in advance, the more time you will actually have to relax and enjoy your company when they come. Isn’t this what it’s really all about anyways?
Tip #4: Take time for Yourself!
This is probably the most important tip and the one that’s usually first to go. When we are busy, it is really important to take time for ourselves and to conserve our energy. It’s important to re-charge the batteries so that we do have the energy to put towards other things. Most of you are probably thinking, “But I don’t have time.” Make the time. It will have a HUGE impact on every aspect of your life if you do.
What do you love to do that’s relaxing? It could be a manicure, a massage, a hot bubble bath or even a walk in nature. Walking outside helps us to re-connect with ourselves and clear our minds. Meditation is great for this too.
“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace.”
